New Delhi, 18th March: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a 4-lane access-controlled National Highway-927 from Barabanki to Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh at a total cost of ₹6,969.04 crore.

The 101.515-km project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) and aims to upgrade the existing corridor to improve connectivity, road safety and travel efficiency.

The Barabanki–Bahraich stretch currently faces issues such as sharp curves, geometric deficiencies and congestion in built-up areas. The upgraded highway, designed with access control and continuous service roads, will bypass major habitations, significantly improving traffic flow and reducing travel time to nearly one hour.

The project will strengthen regional connectivity by linking key towns including Barabanki, Ramnagar, Jarwal, Kaisarganj and Bahraich, while integrating with major highways such as NH-27, NH-330B and NH-730.

Strategically, the corridor will enhance connectivity to the Rupaidiha Land Port, facilitating smoother cross-border trade between India and Nepal via the Nepalganj route. It will also improve access to key economic and social nodes, including airports in Lucknow and Shravasti, railway stations and logistics hubs.

The upgraded highway is expected to support multi-modal transport integration, connecting with three economic nodes, two social nodes and twelve logistics nodes, thereby strengthening supply chains and regional mobility.

Officials said the project will play a crucial role in boosting agri-trade, tourism and cross-border commerce, particularly benefiting remote districts such as Bahraich and Shravasti.

In terms of employment, the project is estimated to generate around 36.54 lakh person-days of direct employment and 43.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment.

Aligned with the PM GatiShakti framework, the NH-927 corridor is expected to enhance infrastructure efficiency, reduce logistics costs and contribute to socio-economic development across the region.
