New Delhi, 10th Sept: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the construction of the Mokama-Munger section of the Buxar-Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor in Bihar. The project, to be executed on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), will cover 82.4 km at a total capital cost of ₹4,447.38 crore.

The four-lane greenfield access-controlled corridor will connect key cities including Mokama, Barhiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger with Bhagalpur. The eastern Bihar region—comprising Munger, Jamalpur, and Bhagalpur—is emerging as an industrial hub with the presence of the ordnance factory, locomotive workshops, food processing units such as ITC in Munger, and proposed textile and logistics hubs in Bhagalpur.

The project is expected to reduce travel time by 1.5 hours, enabling average vehicular speeds of 80 kmph with a design speed of 100 kmph. The corridor will provide safe, faster, and seamless connectivity for both passenger and freight movement.

The development is projected to generate around 14.83 lakh man-days of direct employment and 18.46 lakh man-days of indirect employment. Additional opportunities are anticipated with the rise in economic activity along the corridor.
