Chandigarh, 18th March: The Department of Social Welfare and the Social Welfare Committee of the Chandigarh Administration will organise a major public outreach conference titled “Aapki Yojana – Aapke Dwar” on March 18 at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18.

The event, earlier scheduled for March 16, has been rescheduled due to administrative reasons.

Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria will preside over the conference, while former MP and Social Welfare Committee Chairman Satya Pal Jain will attend as the chief guest.

Event coordinator and former Mayor Davesh Moudgil said the initiative aims to bridge the information gap regarding government welfare schemes and ensure that eligible beneficiaries can access them.

He noted that the department currently runs around 77 schemes focused on the socio-economic upliftment of underprivileged sections, including women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. However, lack of awareness has limited their reach.

The conference will bring together social workers, voluntary organisations, and stakeholders involved in community service. Information booklets detailing various schemes will be distributed among attendees to help expand outreach at the grassroots level.

Key schemes include monthly pensions for the elderly, women, and persons with disabilities, a financial assistance of ₹31,000 for marriage of girls from economically weaker sections, ₹2.5 lakh support for inter-caste marriages, nutritional programmes for children, and Anganwadi-related initiatives.

Officials said the programme is aimed at strengthening last-mile delivery of welfare benefits and encouraging wider public participation in government initiatives.
