Imphal, 4th March. Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey inaugurated the Northeast Indian Film Festival 2024.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Governor remarked that women’s portrayal in films is not being presented properly. She appealed to producers to pay special attention when portraying women to ensure they are not merely reduced to presentation tools. She emphasized that according to our culture, their entire personality should be highlighted.
Governor praised the efforts in promoting art and culture in the Northeast and stated that these efforts will undoubtedly help in elevating the standards of cinema in Northeast India and encouraging young artists and technicians.
She said that the impact of good films is significant, especially in shaping the character of youth. Commercial films not only entertain viewers but also try to divert them from undesirable objectives like unrest and violence. She appealed to all filmmakers to make good films that inspire youth to stay connected to their religion and culture.
The Governor further stated that the tribal communities of Northeast India possess a rich cultural heritage, and their folklore is filled with beautiful stories of love and bravery which can serve as excellent script material for making films on tribes. Such films will provide people with an opportunity to understand the excellent art and culture of the tribal society and present their bright side to modern society.
In the inaugural ceremony, M. Joy Singh, Commissioner (IPR), Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, VC, DM University, and renowned filmmaker Arribam Shyam Sharma, film lovers, actors participated.
