Gold and Silver Purity Explained
Understanding gold’s purity is crucial when making a purchase. Here’s a breakdown of different carat values and their corresponding purity levels:
- 24 Carat Gold: 99.9% pure
- 23 Carat Gold: 95.8% pure
- 22 Carat Gold: 91.6% pure
- 21 Carat Gold: 87.5% pure
- 18 Carat Gold: 75% pure
- 17 Carat Gold: 70.8% pure
- 14 Carat Gold: 58.5% pure
- 9 Carat Gold: 37.5% pure
While 24-carat gold is considered the purest form, it is typically too soft for making intricate jewelry. Therefore, 22-carat gold is commonly preferred for crafting ornaments due to its balance of purity and durability.
