New Delhi, 15th Aug: Global leaders and neighbours on Friday extended warm greetings to India on its 79th Independence Day, reaffirming strong bilateral ties and acknowledging the country’s growing stature on the world stage.

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised India’s “well-deserved authority” in global affairs and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to strengthening their “special privileged strategic partnership.” France’s President Emmanuel Macron also extended congratulations, fondly recalling his meeting with Prime Minister Modi and expressing his desire to deepen the strategic partnership. The United States, through Secretary of State Marco Rubio, described the relationship between the world’s largest and oldest democracies as “consequential and far-reaching,” emphasizing a shared vision for a peaceful Indo-Pacific.

Messages also poured in from other key nations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Prime Minister Modi a “dear friend” and highlighted the nations’ shared values of democracy, history, and innovation. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong celebrated five years of the nations’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, noting the relationship is “stronger and more consequential than ever.”

Neighboring countries also extended their well wishes. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu called India a “trusted development partner.” Nepalese Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba praised India as a “shining example of democracy,” while Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath wished for enduring friendship. Additionally, leaders from Singapore, Ukraine, and Iran also sent greetings, expressing their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting peace and prosperity.
