Mumbai, 22nd June: Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has taken a sharp dig at US President Donald Trump, sarcastically suggesting that he be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize—not for his efforts, but simply to silence him.
Mehta shared a screenshot of Trump’s recent statement demanding recognition for his supposed role in de-escalating conflicts between India-Pakistan and Serbia-Kosovo. Trump had said, “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, or between Serbia and Kosovo.”
Reacting to the claim, Mehta wrote in an Instagram Story, “If a Nobel Peace Prize is what it takes to get him to STU, then by all means—give it to him. A small price to pay for silencing a tireless motormouth.”*
The filmmaker’s remarks came just ahead of fresh tensions in West Asia. Hours after Trump’s comments, the US military launched airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Trump later claimed in a televised address that the “key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated” and termed the strikes a “spectacular military success.”
Iran, however, rejected the US claims, stating its nuclear programme remains intact. It responded by intensifying missile attacks on Israel, triggering widespread sirens across the country. The conflict has now escalated with major global powers taking sides—Israel backed by the US and Western allies, and Iran receiving support from Russia, China, and North Korea.
As the war rhetoric grows, Mehta’s satirical jab at Trump’s self-congratulatory tone has gone viral online.
