Udupi, 28th Nov: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka, where one lakh devotees recited shlokas from the Bhagavad Gita. He described the gathering as a living reflection of India’s timeless spiritual heritage.
PM Modi said the Gita’s message continues to guide not only individuals but the direction of India’s governance and public policy. He noted that welfare initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and PM Awas, as well as global efforts like Vaccine Maitri and the International Solar Alliance, draw inspiration from the Gita’s ideals of duty, compassion and collective welfare.
Highlighting that peace sometimes requires confronting injustice, the Prime Minister said this principle forms the foundation of India’s security doctrine. “India knows how to establish peace and how to safeguard it,” he remarked, referring to the country’s firm responses to recent terror attacks.
The Prime Minister laid out nine national resolutions—water conservation, tree plantation, uplifting the poor, embracing Swadeshi, natural farming, healthy lifestyle, yoga, preservation of manuscripts, and visiting 25 heritage sites—to strengthen India’s cultural and civic consciousness.
He also underlined Udupi’s special place in India’s cultural and political landscape, recalling its long association with Jagadguru Madhvacharya and its contribution to public movements such as the Ram Mandir campaign. Modi praised the global impact of the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana and the youth’s growing engagement with the Gita.
Calling the journey to 2047 a duty-driven era for building a developed nation, the Prime Minister urged every citizen to contribute to India’s progress. He said the collective spiritual energy of Udupi will continue to inspire India’s resolve toward development.
