Gita-Based Needonomics Key to Holistic Education under NEP: Prof M.M. Goel

Ambala, March 21, 2026 — “Gita-inspired Needonomics, as an integral part of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), is essential for achieving holistic education under the National Education Policy (NEP),” asserted Prof. Madan Mohan Goel, Propounder Needonomics School of Thought, former Vice-Chancellor and superannuated Professor of Kurukshetra University, while addressing participants at an Online International Seminar organized by Surya College of Education, Bhanokheri (Ambala).

Dr. Karamjit Kaur, President of the college, delivered the welcome address and presented a citation recognizing Prof. M.M. Goel’s distinguished academic contributions and leadership in higher education. Mr Gurtej Singh convener of the conference proposed vote of thanks. Dr Vineet Kumar Mishra Principal acted as master of ceremony.

Expressing gratitude for the invitation, Prof. Goel remarked that Dr. Karamjeet Kaur is a living embodiment of ‘Jeevan-Mukti’—who, according to the ‘Anu-Gita’, through her actions stands even superior to those honored with the ‘Padma Shri’.

Speaking on “Indian Knowledge System for Holistic Education under NEP,” Prof. Goel emphasized that modern education must evolve into a value-driven, ethical, and human-centric force.

Referring to NEP’s vision of 360-degree holistic education, he highlighted the need to promote national integration, socio-cultural cohesion, and constitutional values through the Indian Knowledge System, guided by the principles of Responsibility, Accountability, and Morality (RAM).

Prof. Goel highlighted the enduring wisdom of the Hitopadeśa, describing a natural progression in life: knowledge cultivates humility, humility builds worthiness, worthiness leads to wealth, wealth supports dharma, and dharma ultimately results in happiness.

He noted that Needonomics seeks to restore this sequence, redefining the purpose of education—not merely as a means of livelihood, but as a path to a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Prof. Goel introduced Needonomics as a commonsense approach to economics that prioritizes genuine human needs over excessive wants to achieve needo-wealth, needo-health, and needo-happiness.

Concluding his address, Prof Goel called upon teachers and learners to become “street SMART”—Simple, Moral, Action-oriented, Responsive, and Transparent—so as to align education with the broader goals of individual well-being and societal harmony.
