Malda, 17th Jan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asserted that India’s Gen Z believes in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s development agenda, citing the BJP’s historic victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections as evidence of growing public support.

Addressing a massive public rally in Malda ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, Modi expressed confidence that voters in Bengal would also choose the BJP this time, just as Mumbai did in the recent civic polls.

“The youth of India believes in BJP’s model of development. Our landslide victory in the BMC proves that people are rejecting corruption and choosing progress,” Modi said.

Taking a sharp dig at the ruling Trinamool Congress, the Prime Minister thundered in Bengali: “Ei sarkar palano dorkaar” (This Trinamool government needs to be changed).

He accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of looting public funds and blocking central schemes meant for the people of Bengal. “This heartless government is stopping development. Real progress will come to Bengal only after Trinamool is defeated,” he said.

Raising the sensitive issue of infiltration, Modi alleged that the TMC was shielding illegal migrants for vote-bank politics. He warned that once BJP forms the government in Bengal, strict action would be taken against infiltration.

“Big action will be taken against infiltration when BJP comes to power in Bengal,” he declared.

At the same time, Modi reassured the Matuas and other persecuted refugees from neighbouring countries that they had nothing to fear. He reiterated that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was designed to protect such communities.

“CAA is your shield. You are our responsibility,” he said.

The Bengal Assembly elections are expected in a few months, and the BJP is positioning itself as the main challenger to Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.

Political analysts say Modi’s emphasis on youth, development, and infiltration signals BJP’s key campaign planks in the state.
