New Delhi, 15th June: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today departed for a significant three-nation official tour that will take him to the Republic of Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia. In a departure statement released by PIB Delhi this morning, the Prime Minister outlined the objectives and expectations for each leg of his diplomatic journey.
Cyprus: Deepening Historical Bonds (June 15-16)
The Prime Minister’s first stop will be the Republic of Cyprus, where he will be visiting from June 15-16 at the invitation of President H.E. Nikos Christodoulides. Prime Minister Modi highlighted Cyprus as “a close friend and an important partner in the Mediterranean region and the EU.” He noted that the visit offers a crucial opportunity to build upon historical ties and expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, security, technology, and to promote people-to-people exchanges.
Canada: G7 Summit and Global South Priorities (June 16-17)
From Cyprus, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Kananaskis, Canada, to attend the G7 Summit on June 16-17. Invited by Canadian Prime Minister H.E. Mark Carney, this marks PM Modi’s sixth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit. At the summit, he looks forward to exchanging views on “pressing global issues and the priorities of the Global South” with leaders from G7 countries, other invited outreach nations, and international organizations. He also anticipates engaging in bilateral meetings with partner countries on the sidelines of the Summit.
Croatia: A Historic First Visit (June 18)
The final leg of the tour will see Prime Minister Modi in the Republic of Croatia on June 18, at the invitation of Prime Minister H.E. Andrej Plenković. This visit is particularly historic as it will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia. Modi emphasized the “centuries-old close cultural links” between the two countries and expressed hope that the visit will “open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.”
Galvanizing Global Action Against Terrorism
Beyond the specific bilateral and multilateral engagements, Prime Minister Modi stated that this three-nation tour also serves as “an opportunity to thank partner countries for their steadfast support to India in our fight against cross-border terrorism, and to galvanize global understanding on tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
