Patna, 22nd Oct: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot arrived in Patna on Tuesday to address seat-sharing disputes and internal challenges within the Mahagathbandhan ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. During his visit, Gehlot met with RJD leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav for over an hour. A photograph from the meeting also shows Rabri Devi present with the trio.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Gehlot said, “Tomorrow at the press conference, the full picture will be clear. Only 5–6 seats have friendly contests; there is no split in the Mahagathbandhan.”
Meanwhile, Purnia MP Pappu Yadav made a bold claim in Patna, stating that the NDA would not make Nitish Kumar Chief Minister and only Congress could honor him. He added that Nitish is reportedly interested in joining Congress, and the party would welcome him.
Reacting to Gehlot’s visit, Union Minister Chirag Paswan said, “I am glad a serious leader has come, and I respect Ashok Gehlot. But he realized too late that he was made in-charge of Bihar elections, showing Congress’s priorities. How can you say friendly contests on a few seats are acceptable? This lack of seriousness could be a major reason for Mahagathbandhan’s defeat.”
The Mahagathbandhan, comprising Congress, RJD, and other allies, is gearing up for the crucial elections scheduled for November 6 and 11.
