Kalyan,Maharashtra, 27th January–Dombivli witnessed a surge of political tension on Tuesday after four newly elected corporators of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) were reported missing under mysterious circumstances. The incident has raised serious security concerns and sparked sharp reactions across the local political landscape.
According to party sources, the corporators, who were elected recently from the Kalyan–Dombivli Municipal Corporation area, have been unreachable for several hours, prompting their families and party colleagues to approach the police. A missing persons complaint was subsequently registered at the Kolsewadi police station, setting off an official investigation.
Senior police officials confirmed that multiple teams have been formed to trace the missing corporators. “We have begun examining CCTV footage from key locations and are also analysing call detail records to establish their last known movements and contacts,” a police officer said, adding that all possible angles are being explored. Search operations are currently underway across Kalyan, Dombivli, and nearby areas.
The sudden disappearance has sent shockwaves through the Shiv Sena (UBT) camp, with party leaders expressing deep concern over the safety of the corporators. Several leaders have alleged that the incident could be linked to political pressure or coercion, though no concrete evidence has been presented so far. They have demanded a swift and transparent probe, warning that any delay could worsen the already volatile political situation in the region.
“This is not just about four individuals. It is about the safety of elected representatives and the health of democracy,” a Shiv Sena (UBT) functionary said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Party workers gathered outside the police station, urging authorities to intensify the search and ensure the corporators’ safe return.
The incident has also triggered reactions from rival political parties, with leaders calling for restraint while emphasising the need for an impartial investigation. Some have appealed to avoid speculation until facts emerge, noting that unfounded allegations could escalate tensions further.
Police officials maintained that there is no confirmation yet of any criminal angle. “At this stage, we are treating it as a missing persons case. We urge the public and political groups to cooperate and not spread rumours,” an officer said.
As the search continues, the disappearance of the four corporators has cast a shadow over local governance in Kalyan–Dombivli. Residents and party workers alike are anxiously awaiting clarity, hoping for their safe return and answers to the questions surrounding their sudden absence.
