Former PM Manmohan Singh’s Mortal Remains Reach Nigambodh Ghat for Last Rites

New Delhi, 28th Dec. The mortal remains of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived at Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat crematorium on Saturday evening for the final rites. The procession reached the crematorium at around 11:30 AM, where the last rites are set to be performed shortly.

Earlier in the day, the final journey of the late leader commenced from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, where Congress leaders and supporters paid their tributes. The flower-adorned vehicle carrying Singh’s remains departed amidst chants of “Manmohan Singh amar rahe” and “Jab tak suraj chand rahega, tab tak tera naam rahega.”

Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi joined the procession alongside Singh’s family members and well-wishers. Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, were among those who paid homage at the AICC headquarters, where Singh’s body was brought from his residence on Motilal Nehru Road earlier in the morning.

Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their daughter laid wreaths on his body, paying their last respects to the stalwart leader.

Manmohan Singh, a distinguished economist and the architect of India’s economic reforms, passed away on Thursday night at AIIMS Delhi at the age of 92 due to age-related complications. He served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, leaving behind a legacy of transformative economic policies and governance.

The Union Home Ministry has declared a seven-day national mourning in honor of the former Prime Minister, with the national flag flown at half-mast across the country.
