New Delhi, 16th Jan: Thousands of Indian students dream of studying abroad every year, applying to universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Russia, and other countries. However, high tuition fees and living expenses often make overseas education unaffordable for many, leaving their aspirations unfulfilled.
Now, this dream may become a reality for lakhs of students as several prestigious foreign universities are preparing to establish campuses in India. These institutions are expected to open centres in major cities, allowing students to access world-class education at a significantly lower cost without leaving the country.
As part of the government’s push for the internationalisation of higher education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted approval to multiple foreign universities to set up campuses in India. According to UGC officials, growing global confidence in India’s regulatory framework has encouraged leading institutions to expand here.
Nine universities from the United Kingdom have already signalled readiness to open campuses in India. Preparations are reportedly underway, and academic operations could begin within the next few years.
Beyond the UK, universities from other countries are also planning to enter India. Institutions such as the University of New South Wales (Australia), the University of Liverpool, and the University of York are exploring the possibility of launching campuses, with Bengaluru and Mumbai emerging as likely destinations.
Education experts say this move will be a major relief for Indian students. They will be able to earn internationally recognised degrees while staying in India, saving on travel, accommodation, and living costs. Tuition fees are also expected to be comparatively lower than studying abroad.
This development will not only make global education more accessible but also strengthen India’s position as an emerging international education hub.
