Chennai, 17th Feb: The first of three Cadet Training Ships (CTS), named ‘Krishna’, was launched at L&T’s Kattupalli shipyard near Chennai on February 16.

In keeping with naval traditions, the ship was launched by Anupama Chauhan in the presence of Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. Senior officials of the Indian Armed Forces and L&T Shipbuilding attended the ceremony.

The vessel has been indigenously designed and built by L&T and is scheduled for formal delivery to the Indian Navy by the end of 2026.

According to officials, the Cadet Training Ships will be used to train officer cadets, including women, at sea after their basic shore-based training. The ships will also be used for training cadets from friendly foreign countries.

The launch marks another step in the Indian Navy’s push for indigenous shipbuilding and aligns with the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.
