A devastating fire broke out in a market area in Alipur, Delhi, last evening, claiming the lives of at least eleven individuals. The fire, which originated at a paint factory, quickly spread to engulf two godowns and a de-addiction center, according to officials from the fire department.

The charred remains of the eleven victims were discovered within the premises of the factory located in Alipur’s Dayalpur Market. Among the casualties, four individuals, including a police officer, sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment, while two others are feared to be trapped inside the debris.

Upon receiving the alert at 5:25 pm, the Fire department swiftly dispatched six fire engines to the scene. Despite the intense blaze, firefighters managed to bring the situation under control within four hours of battling the flames, stated a fire department official. Preliminary investigations suggest that an explosion occurred at the factory site prior to the outbreak of the fire, possibly triggered by stored chemicals.

“The fire extended to nearby structures, including a residential building and a de-addiction center. A blast occurred, resulting in the collapse of the building and trapping eleven laborers, who unfortunately lost their lives. The bodies were severely burnt, hampering identification efforts,” remarked Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Services.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the fire and ensure stringent safety measures in similar establishments to prevent such tragedies in the future.
