Kolkata, 18th May. An FIR was registered on Saturday against three officials of Raj Bhavan for allegedly wrongfully restraining an employee who accused West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose of sexual harassment. The complainant, who claims to be a temporary employee at Raj Bhavan, reported to the police earlier this month that she had been sexually abused multiple times by the Governor under the pretense of securing her a permanent job.
Governor Bose has firmly denied the allegations, labeling them an “engineered narrative.” In a statement, he said, “Truth shall triumph. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them. But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal.”
The FIR, filed at Hare Street Police Station, omits any mention of Governor Bose, in accordance with Article 361 of the Constitution, which provides immunity to a sitting governor from criminal proceedings.
Police sources indicate that the FIR was lodged following the complainant’s statement before a magistrate. The complaint specifies that the three Raj Bhavan officials attempted to prevent her from approaching the police regarding the alleged incidents. Consequently, the case has been registered under sections 341 (wrongful restraint) and 166 (public servant disobeying law) of the Indian Penal Code.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the issue. She expressed her concern, stating, “I wonder what is happening in the Raj Bhavan, and that too on a day when the Prime Minister is coming to the state.”
