Raipur, 31st Aug: An FIR has been lodged against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in Raipur for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The FIR was registered at Mana police station on Saturday following a complaint by local BJP leader Gopal Samanto.
Police confirmed that the case was filed under Sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with promoting enmity between groups and making assertions prejudicial to national integration.
The controversy erupted after Moitra allegedly said during an event in Nadia, West Bengal, that if Amit Shah fails to stop infiltration from Bangladesh, “the first thing you should do is cut Amit Shah’s head and put it on your table.” The remarks, caught on a circulating video clip, have triggered outrage, though PTI reported it could not independently verify the footage.
Raipur police noted that the statement could disturb peace in the Mana Camp area, home to thousands of Bangladeshi refugees since 1971.
BJP leader Gopal Samanto, who filed the complaint, said: “I got the FIR registered with a heavy heart. Mahua Moitra is an MP from my community, but she made an irresponsible statement against the Home Minister. This is shamelessness.” He added that such individuals should be “boycotted from society.”
Raipur SSP Lal Umed Singh confirmed the FIR, adding: “Further proceedings include recording statements and collecting evidence. If necessary, she will be summoned through a notice.”
Moitra has not yet issued a public clarification.
