Fiji PM Calls on President Murmu, Leaders Affirm Strong Ties

New Delhi, 25th Aug: Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka met with President of India Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations. The visit follows President Murmu’s State Visit to Fiji in August 2024.

During the meeting, President Murmu welcomed Prime Minister Rabuka and his delegation, emphasizing the long-standing and strong relationship between the two nations, which is characterized by deep people-to-people ties. She highlighted the vital contributions of the Girmitiya community in shaping Fiji’s multicultural identity and economy.

As part of their modern partnership, India expressed its commitment to supporting Fiji’s socio-economic development, with a specific focus on areas like health, capacity building, and climate resilience. A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a super-specialty hospital in Fiji, a project considered a major milestone in healthcare cooperation.

The President also noted India’s revolution in digital financial inclusion and offered to share its experiences in initiatives like UPI, ‘Jan Dhan’, and Aadhaar with Fiji. Both leaders expressed confidence that the visit will further open new avenues for cooperation, ultimately benefiting the people of both countries.
