Srinagar, 9th July. In a stern message to Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah said on Monday that sponsoring terrorism will not yield any positive outcomes for the country. Addressing the ongoing hostility between India and Pakistan, Abdullah emphasized the futility of terrorism and stressed the importance of fostering peaceful relations between the nations, echoing sentiments once expressed by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
“It is important for Pakistan to understand that sponsoring terrorism will not lead them anywhere,” Abdullah stated, highlighting that progress can only be achieved through friendship and cooperation. He underscored the detrimental impact of enmity on both countries’ development trajectories, pointing to the internal challenges faced by Pakistan.
Abdullah also voiced support for including Punjabi in the education curriculum of Jammu and Kashmir, alongside languages like Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, and English. “Many people speak Punjabi. It should not be overlooked,” he emphasized, pledging to raise this issue in Parliament through his party’s MPs.
Meanwhile, in a tragic incident earlier on Monday, five army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), lost their lives while five others sustained injuries in a terrorist ambush in the Machedi area of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists, armed with grenades and firearms, targeted an army truck during a routine patrolling operation, prompting a swift response from security forces who engaged in a firefight with the attackers.
Reinforcements were mobilized to neutralize the terrorists, believed to be three in number and suspected recent infiltrators from across the border, as they fled into nearby forests following the attack.
