Bengaluru, 1st July: Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was convicted of raping his house help by a special court in Bengaluru on Friday. The special court for MPs/MLAs said it will announce the quantum of punishment against Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, on Saturday.

The conviction came in a case filed by a woman who worked as a domestic help at Revanna’s family’s farmhouse. The woman had accused Revanna of repeatedly raping her since 2021 and threatening to release videos of the abuse if she revealed the incidents to anyone.

During the trial, the court examined all 26 witnesses and framed charges against Revanna under various sections, including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and unlawful circulation of intimate images. The trial concluded on July 18, with the judge seeking clarifications on technical evidence before delivering the verdict today. According to reports, Revanna, who was arrested on May 31 last year, was visibly emotional in court after the verdict was announced.

The conviction is the first in a series of criminal cases filed against Revanna in 2024, after a scandal erupted with the circulation of over 2,000 obscene video clips allegedly depicting the sexual abuse of multiple women. He is also facing charges in three other cases, including the repeated rape of a 44-year-old former member of the Hassan Zilla Panchayat and the rape of a domestic help in her 60s from Mysuru.

Revanna, who was suspended by the JD(S) following the cases, failed to retain his Hassan parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
