Hamirpur, 21st June. Union Minister Anurag Thakur, stated on Tuesday that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who emphasised the importance of yoga before the United Nations General Assembly and urged the world to adopt it.
“On his call, all the countries of the world adopted yoga and resolved to celebrate the International Yoga Day every year on June 21. This is a big achievement for India,” Thakur said during a yoga session at Katoch Palace in Sujanpur.
People can be seen doing yoga at corporate offices, shopping malls, and airports, the Union Minister said, adding ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is being held at 75 famous historical heritage sites across the country with the theme “Yoga for Humanity.”
Thakur, who is also the minister for youth affairs and sports, emphasised the importance of yoga, saying it is instrumental in developing a healthy community and nation.
He said, that is why, yoga is being pushed alongside the Fit India Movement and the Khelo India Campaign, among other activities.
As India commemorates its 75th year of independence, Thakur urged citizens to pledge to make India a world guru in the next 25 years and to do everything in their power to accelerate development in every sector.
Thakur further said, India is also the birthplace of chess, and the country will host the Chess Olympiad this year. He noted that athletes from 188 countries would compete in the tournament, which will begin on July 28.
The first-ever torch relay for the Chess Olympiad was launched off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, ahead of the 44th edition of the event.
The torch relay will begin from India every year, Anurag Thakur said.
