Election Officials Seize ₹1 Crore Cash from Residence in Tamil Nadu Ahead of Polls

Election Flying Squad officials on Friday night seized 1 crore in cash from a house in Ettarai village, Tiruchirappalli. This is the first such seizure before the Lok Sabha polls in the state.

District Collector Pradeep Kumar stated that the Election Flying Squad officers found the cash during a search at the house in Ettarai village. The currency notes were stuffed in a bag.

Kumar mentioned that a phone call to the election control room in the Trichy District Collectorate led to the recovery of the cash.

He added that the Election Flying Squad officials acted on information about cash being kept at a house in the village.

The district collector also mentioned that Income Tax officials are investigating who stored such a large amount of cash at the house and whether it was intended for use during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be up for polling in the first phase of the general elections on April 19. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
