Kollam, 3rd Nov: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan underscored the importance of character-building and moral education in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat while addressing the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Fatima Mata National College, Kollam, on Monday.

“Education is the greatest wealth a person can possess,” the Vice-President said, stressing that true education goes beyond academics and must nurture discipline, compassion, and social responsibility. He described man-making as the most vital foundation for building a great and humane society.

Highlighting the college’s legacy since its founding in 1951, Radhakrishnan praised its motto, Per Matrem Pro Patria (“Through the Mother for the Fatherland”), for inspiring generations to serve the nation with integrity and purpose.

He called for a nationwide “No To Drugs” campaign, urging parents, teachers, and youth to come together against substance abuse, which he described as a grave threat to health and society. The Vice-President also advised students to use social media responsibly, noting that while technology connects people, its misuse can spread misinformation and division.

Commending Kerala’s high literacy and educational achievements, Radhakrishnan expressed confidence that Fatima Mata National College would continue to guide future generations and celebrate its centenary in a Viksit Bharat.
