New Delhi, 2nd Sept. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the residence of AAP leader and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan this morning as part of its ongoing investigation into a money laundering case. The case revolves around alleged irregularities in appointments in the Delhi Waqf Board and the leasing of its properties.
In response to the raid, Khan released a video statement on X, claiming that the ED was planning to arrest him under the guise of conducting a search. He also mentioned that his mother-in-law, who recently underwent cancer surgery, is currently staying with him. “The ED team has come to arrest me on the pretext of a search. They have been harassing me for two years with false cases, trying to break our party. I appeal to the people of Okhla to pray for me; we will not be scared,” Khan said.
Footage from the raid shows Khan speaking to an ED official through a mesh door, requesting four weeks’ time due to his mother-in-law’s condition. “Why do you believe we are here to arrest you?” the official is heard asking. Khan responds, “Why else have you come?” His wife is also seen expressing frustration, questioning the necessity of repeatedly searching their three-room house and expressing concern for her ailing mother.
Top AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, have condemned the raid, accusing the BJP-led central government of targeting those who oppose it. “This is the only work left with ED—muffle every voice raised against BJP and jail those who do not break,” said former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Sanjay Singh, who was recently arrested in another money laundering case, questioned the legitimacy of the probe against Khan, pointing out that the CBI had previously told a court that no financial crime was committed in this matter. Singh added that the ED had searched Khan’s home last year as well and found nothing.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, criticized Khan, labeling him as a “notorious, corrupt, and anti-social element” and questioning the AAP’s support for him, suggesting it reflects poorly on Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership.
