ED Gets Approval to Prosecute Kejriwal, Sisodia in Liquor Policy Case

New Delhi, 15th Jan. In a fresh setback for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal ahead of the Delhi election, the Union Home Ministry has granted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) permission to prosecute Kejriwal in a money laundering case linked to the scrapped liquor policy. The ministry also approved the ED’s prosecution push against former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the same case.

This development follows a Supreme Court ruling in November, which required prior approval for prosecuting public servants in such cases. The ED had earlier claimed that Kejriwal was the mastermind behind alleged irregularities in the liquor policy case, but charges could not be framed without clearance.

Kejriwal and Sisodia, who were arrested in connection with the case and are currently out on bail, have denied the charges and accused the BJP of using probe agencies to target political opponents. Both are actively campaigning for the Delhi Assembly election scheduled for February 5, with Kejriwal filing his nomination from New Delhi constituency. This new development is expected to intensify BJP’s criticism of the AAP in the lead-up to the election.
