Mumbai, 5th Jan. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted searches on Friday at the premises of Baramati Agro, a company owned by MLA Rohit Pawar, who is the grand nephew of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar. These searches are part of a money laundering investigation into the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank scam, according to official sources.
Several locations in Baramati, Pune, Pimpri, and Aurangabad are currently being searched as part of this operation.
The office of Baramati Agro in Baramati town is also included in the search.
Rohit Pawar, aged 38, is an NCP MLA representing the Karjat-Jamkhed seat in the Maharashtra assembly. He is the owner and CEO of Baramati Agro. Also, he is the nephew of Baramati MP Supriya Sule and Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state and MLA from Baramati.
The money laundering case involving the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank originated from an FIR filed by the Mumbai Police Economic Offences (EOW) wing in August 2019.
This police complaint was filed following an order from the Bombay High Court on August 22 of that year, which directed an investigation into the alleged fraudulent sale of sugar factories in the cooperative sector of Maharashtra at significantly low prices.
