ED Conducts Raids at Residence of TMC Leader Shahjahan Sheikh in Ration Distribution Scam Case

Kolkata, 24th Jan. Nineteen days after a mob attacked an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team, ED investigators conducted another raid at the residence of Shahjahan Sheikh, a absconding leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party.

The raid took place in the North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday morning as part of the ED’s investigation into an alleged scam involving the distribution of ration worth crores of rupees.

The ED officers, accompanied by more than 120 personnel from the central armed police force, forcefully entered Sheikh’s residence in the Sandeshkhali area.

Local police and two witnesses were present during the raid.

“We will search Sheikh’s house today. We will also try to talk to the residents there”, the ED officer said.

After entering the house, the ED officers locked the gates from inside and started searches, he added.

On January 5, a team of ED officers were assaulted by a mob when they tried to enter the residence of the TMC leader.

Three officers were injured in the attack. The district police and Sheikh’s family members had lodged a complaint against the ED officers.
Sheikh, however, is absconding till date.
