New Delhi, 12th Sept: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday conducted a one-day workshop at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, for Media and Communication Officers from the offices of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) across all 36 States and Union Territories.
A total of 51 Media Nodal Officers (MNOs) and Social Media Nodal Officers (SMNOs) participated. Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, addressed the inaugural session.
Highlighting the rising challenge of fake news, the Commission stressed the need to clearly convey that India’s elections are conducted strictly under constitutional provisions and to counter any misleading narratives with verified facts.
The programme included sessions on strengthening communication systems in CEO offices, timely dissemination of accurate information, and strategies to tackle misinformation. A special focus was placed on the upcoming Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls and the use of digital tools to fact-check and clarify false claims.
This was the third such orientation for CEO media teams, following earlier sessions at IIIDEM on April 9 and June 5, 2025, aimed at fortifying the ECI’s proactive communication network ahead of forthcoming elections.
