New Delhi, 22nd Feb: The Election Commission of India will convene a National Round Table Conference with State Election Commissioners (SECs) on February 24 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, marking the first such conference since 1999.

The meeting will be chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the presence of Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

State Election Commissioners from all States and Union Territories, along with Chief Electoral Officers and legal and technical experts, will participate.

Strengthening Electoral Synergy
The primary objective of the conference is to enhance coordination between the ECI and SECs within their respective constitutional mandates. Discussions will focus on sharing of technology, management of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), harmonisation of electoral rolls and improving logistical efficiency.

Senior officials will present the transformative potential of the newly launched ECINET digital platform in streamlining electoral services. A comparative review of eligibility provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 across States and Union Territories will also be undertaken.

State Election Commissions, constituted under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments, oversee elections to Panchayats and Municipal Bodies under Articles 243K and 243ZA.

The conference is expected to provide a platform for constructive exchange of ideas and reinforce the spirit of cooperative federalism in electoral management.
