Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, held a comprehensive review on the first day of their two-day visit.
The Commission interacted with representatives of recognised national and state political parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, CPI(M), Congress, AIUDF, Asom Gana Parishad, United People’s Party Liberal, and the Bodoland People’s Front. Parties were invited to present their views, concerns, and suggestions to ensure transparent and impartial elections.
Most parties requested that the polls be conducted in a single phase or a maximum of two phases. They also urged the Commission to schedule the election dates keeping the Bihu festival in mind.
Political parties generally appreciated the conduct of the special revision of electoral rolls in the state and offered suggestions for ensuring peaceful elections.
Following the meeting, the Commission held a detailed review with senior police and administrative officials, including IGs, DIGs, District Election Officers, and SSPs. The discussions covered election planning, EVM management, logistics, staff training, seizures, law and order, and voter awareness.
CEC Gyanesh Kumar stressed that the elections must be conducted strictly in accordance with the Constitution, relevant laws, and Election Commission guidelines. He directed officials to act with complete impartiality and ensure prompt resolution of complaints from political parties.
The Commission also asked officials to make polling stations festive, welcoming, and voter-friendly. All DEOs and SPs were instructed to monitor social media for fake news and take swift legal action when required.
