Patna, 1st Nov: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has transferred several administrative and police officers in Bihar after the killing of a man allegedly linked to Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party in Mokama.
Those transferred include Sub-Divisional Officer Chandan Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officers Rakesh Kumar and Abhishek Singh, and Patna SP (Rural) Vikram Sihag. The ECI has also suspended SDPO Abhishek Singh and sought a report from the Chief Electoral Officer by Sunday noon.
The action follows the murder of Dularchand Yadav, who was killed on Thursday during a clash between two groups while campaigning in the Mokama constituency, which votes in the first phase on November 6.
Mokama, known for its volatile electoral history, is witnessing a fierce contest between JD(U)’s Anant Kumar Singh and RJD’s Veena Devi, wife of his rival Surajbhan Singh. The incident has heightened political tensions ahead of the polls.
Although reports claimed Yadav supported Jan Suraaj, Prashant Kishor denied the association, saying Yadav had no link to his party.
“Dularchand Yadav was neither a member of Jan Suraaj nor involved with the party in any capacity,” Kishor told NDTV.
“Our candidate there is Piyush, and we are not responsible for anyone campaigning for him. Yadav’s enmity was with Anant Kumar Singh,” he said.
The Election Commission’s swift action reflects its focus on ensuring fair and peaceful elections in Bihar.
