New Delhi, 21st Oct: In a major bust under its ongoing “Operation Fire Trail,” the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 46,640 smuggled firecrackers and fireworks worth ₹4.82 crore at Nhava Sheva port.

The consignment, originating from China and destined for ICD Ankleshwar, was deceptively declared as carrying “leggings.” DRI officers discovered the firecrackers hidden behind a superficial layer of garments in a 40-foot container.

In addition to the seizure, the operation led to the arrest of a key person from Veraval, Gujarat, and recovery of documents revealing the smuggling syndicate’s modus operandi.

Under the ITC (HS) Classification of the Foreign Trade Policy, the import of firecrackers is restricted and requires licenses from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO).

The DRI emphasized that such illegal imports pose severe risks to public safety, national security, and critical port infrastructure, affirming its commitment to dismantling organized smuggling networks and safeguarding India’s trade and security ecosystem.
