New Delhi, 27th Jan: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh, held an interactive meeting with a distinguished group of around 500 startups, eminent scientists and scholars from across the country who were specially invited to the National Capital as part of the Republic Day celebrations.

The gathering included scientists and experts from diverse domains such as Space, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences and other frontier research areas, along with leading startup innovators representing India’s rapidly expanding science and innovation ecosystem. Scientists from ISRO and other premier national institutions formed a significant part of the group.

Dr Singh said the invitees were specially called to Delhi to witness the Republic Day Parade and to participate in official engagements in an atmosphere of dignity and national recognition. He informed that around 100 members from this larger group were also invited to the President’s At Home reception, highlighting the national importance attached to their contributions.

The Minister noted that the practice of inviting eminent academics, scientists, doctors and innovators as special invitees for Republic Day events was initiated in recent years at the personal initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the objective of honouring intellectual excellence and providing national visibility to India’s knowledge creators.

“This convention reflects the Prime Minister’s intent to accord due respect to the scientific and academic community and to give them an opportunity to witness national ceremonies from a place of dignity, including interactions at the highest constitutional level,” Dr Jitendra Singh said.

He added that each year a carefully curated group of eminent professionals from science, medicine, academia and innovation is invited to Delhi, reinforcing the government’s emphasis on recognising intellectual capital as a key pillar of national development.

Dr Singh also reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to strengthening scientific research, innovation and capacity building, stating that such efforts are vital to enhancing India’s global scientific footprint and supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
