New Delhi, 1st Dec: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in one of his sharpest pre-session remarks, cautioned the Opposition on Friday not to turn Parliament into a “meltdown arena” as the Winter Session commenced. Taking aim at parties he said were unable to digest their defeat in the Bihar elections, the Prime Minister urged them to focus on constructive debate rather than disruption.
He noted that the strong voter turnout in Bihar, especially the participation of women, reflected growing trust in democratic processes. “The world is watching India closely. We have proved that democracy can deliver,” he said, stressing that Parliament must stay aligned with the nation’s forward momentum.
In a pointed remark at the Congress and other Opposition groups, he said, “A few parties are not able to digest defeat. Parliament must not become a battleground of meltdown or a place to display pride.”
PM Modi urged that young MPs across party lines be given adequate space to raise issues. “There are many places to do drama. Those who want to perform can do so elsewhere. Here, there must be delivery,” he said, adding that negativity should be kept in check.
Referring to states where Opposition parties face heavy anti-incumbency, he said their frustrations were being diverted to Parliament. “Some parties have started a new tradition of using Parliament for their anger. They should realise these tactics are not working,” he stated.
“I am ready to give tips on how they should perform,” he said with a swipe, adding that MPs should not be “sacrificed” to party disappointments.
The Winter Session, which began today, will continue till December 19 with 15 sittings. The government plans to introduce 13 Bills, while the Opposition is preparing to raise issues including the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists.
