Jayant Chaudhary, leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), expressed gratitude towards the government’s decision to confer Bharat Ratna upon his grandfather, former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. This move follows RLD’s alliance with the BJP-led NDA ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement, Jayant Chaudhary tweeted, “Dil jeet liya (Won hearts),” reflecting the sentiment of appreciation for the recognition bestowed upon Chaudhary Charan Singh. This move by the BJP is seen as an outreach to the Jat community.

Speaking in a press conference, Jayant Chaudhary expressed his happiness and thanked PM Modi for the prestigious award, stating, “It is a happy day for the entire country. I want to thank PM Modi from the bottom of my heart for fulfilling the dream of Chaudhary Charan Singh.”

PM Modi, in a tweet, hailed Chaudhary Charan Singh’s contributions to the nation, emphasizing his dedication to the welfare of farmers and democracy during challenging times.

Chaudhary Charan Singh, renowned as a champion of farmers, served as India’s fifth Prime Minister and held the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh twice.

In the backdrop of this development, the BJP and RLD have finalized a seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming elections, with RLD set to contest two Lok Sabha seats in west Uttar Pradesh and being promised a Rajya Sabha seat in the alliance.

The formal announcement of this alliance is expected in the coming days.
