New Delhi, 20th April.
Amid ongoing concerns regarding user data privacy, the Digi Yatra Foundation affirmed the complete safety and security of personally identifiable information (PII), stating that user data is solely stored on their mobile devices. The foundation reiterated that Digi Yatra, built on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), facilitates contactless and seamless passenger movement across various airport checkpoints.

The foundation emphasized that Digi Yatra operates on the principle of Self Sovereign Identity, with its Central Ecosystem (DYCE) refraining from storing any PII data in any central repository. Instead, the Digi Yatra blockchain utilizes only Hash/Key values to ensure data integrity.

Responding to recent concerns related to a former vendor, Dataevolve, the foundation’s CEO, Suresh Khadakbhavi, confirmed the complete removal of Dataevolve from the Digi Yatra ecosystem.

Assuring the safety of user data, the foundation clarified that all PII is stored exclusively on users’ mobile devices within the Digi Yatra app, accessible solely by the users themselves. Upon uninstallation or deletion of the app, both credentials data and travel history are automatically removed from the device.

Detailing the data handling process, the foundation explained that data shared with the airport verifier during travel is purged from airport systems within 24 hours of flight departure.

Furthermore, Digi Yatra holds the mandatory CERT-In audit certificate, as required by civil aviation ministry policies, ensuring compliance with data security standards. The foundation highlighted that the latest audit conducted in January reaffirmed that Digi Yatra does not store any PII.

The statement from the Digi Yatra Foundation seeks to allay concerns and reaffirm trust in the security measures implemented to safeguard user data within the Digi Yatra ecosystem.
