NEW YORK – Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning actress who defined style, wit, and vulnerability on screen has passed away at the age of 79, according to media reports.

Keaton’s passing marks the end of an era in American cinema.
She starred in ‘The Godfather’ to her later roles that celebrated women’s strength and humor, Diane Keaton leaves behind a legacy.
Her death was confirmed by producer and longtime friend Dori Rath to CBS News, while PEOPLE magazine also reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department had responded to her home earlier that morning.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later passed away. Her family has requested privacy as they deal with this heartbreaking loss.
Ms. Keaton was born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, she grew up in a warm and creative household.
She was the eldest of four siblings. Her father worked as a civil engineer, and her mother, a homemaker, encouraged her artistic spirit.
In interviews, Keaton often credited her mother for her confidence, saying, “She sang.
She played the piano. She was beautiful. And she was my advocate.”
Keaton’s love for performing began early. She acted in school plays and later studied drama in college, but left before graduating to chase her dreams in New York City.
It was there that she adopted her mother’s maiden name, Keaton and began her professional career in theater.
Her big break came when she was cast as Kay Adams in ‘The Godfather’ (1972). The role, opposite Al Pacino, made her a household name.
She reprised it in ‘The Godfather Part II’ and ‘Part III’, films that went on to become some of the greatest in cinema history.
In 1977, Keaton delivered one of the most unforgettable performances of her career in Woody Allen’s ‘Annie Hall’.
Her quirky charm, sharp humor, and natural style made her a cultural icon. The role earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Over the decades, Keaton continued to shine in both comedic and dramatic roles.
She starred in films like ‘Father of the Bride’, ‘Baby Boom’, ‘The First Wives Club’, and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’, for which she received another Oscar nomination.
Besides acting, Keaton also worked behind the camera.
She directed the 1987 documentary ‘Heaven’ and the 2000 feature film ‘Hanging Up’, showing that her creativity extended far beyond acting.
Keaton charmed audiences in ‘Book Club’ and its sequel, and even appeared in Justin Bieber’s 2021 music video ‘Ghost’.
She never married and said that she enjoyed her independence and didn’t feel the need to conform to traditional expectations.
Keaton found deep fulfillment in motherhood. She adopted her daughter, Dexter, in 1996 and her son, Duke, in 2001. Both survived her and were said to be very close to their mother.
Keaton was also known for being romantically involved with some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Al Pacino, Warren Beatty, and Woody Allen, as per media reports.
