New Delhi, 2nd Feb: A significant meeting of the Delhi Province Women Historians Council of the Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana was held on February 1, 2026, at Keshav Kunj, Jhandewalan, New Delhi. The meeting took place at the central office of the organisation and focused on strengthening women’s participation in historical research, leadership, and academic outreach.
The primary objective of the meeting was to deliberate on upcoming action plans. Participants laid special emphasis on revisiting historical narratives to highlight the role, contributions, and lived experiences of women, many of which remain marginalised due to lack of systematic research. The council resolved to undertake focused, evidence-based studies on women-centric historical themes to ensure more balanced and inclusive historiography.
Expansion of women membership across districts of Delhi was identified as a key priority. It was proposed that active women researchers, teachers, students, and history enthusiasts be connected to the initiative through targeted outreach programmes. Members noted that increased participation would bring greater diversity, creativity, and organisational strength.
The council also decided to enhance women’s leadership at regional levels. Proposals were passed to appoint women coordinators, co-coordinators, and research mentors across various zones of Delhi, with the aim of making planning and execution more inclusive and sensitive.
Outlining future activities, the meeting finalised three major programmes:
- International Women’s Day programme on March 8
- A meeting-cum-workshop in late March, focusing on historiography, source collection, archival research, and women-centric methodologies
- A National Women Historians’ Seminar in July, inviting women historians from across India for paper presentations and discussions on new dimensions of history writing
The meeting was attended by senior office-bearers of the organisation, including Dr. Balmukund Pandey, Prof. Dharmchand Chaubey, Dr. Nirmal Pandey, and Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh. From the Women Historians Council, Dr. Gauri Dey, Dr. Rajkumari Mishra, Dr. Hemlata Yadav, Dr. Rachna, and other members were present.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve that the Delhi Province Women Historians Council will play a decisive role in research, organisational growth, and the rewriting of Indian history by ensuring women’s perspectives receive due recognition and scholarly space.
