New Delhi, 13th Jan. Delhi experienced its coldest morning of the winter season with a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius, accompanied by thick fog in various parts of the city, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This follows the previous day’s record low of 3.9 degrees Celsius, the coldest in five years.
The IMD predicts a maximum temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius for Saturday. Visibility at Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi’s main weather station, was only 200 meters at 5:30 am.
The fog caused delays of one to six hours for 18 trains heading to Delhi, according to the Railways.
The IMD classifies fog as very dense when visibility is between 0 and 50 meters, dense between 51 and 200 meters, moderate between 201 and 500 meters, and shallow between 501 and 1,000 meters.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 365 at 9 am, indicating poor air quality, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
