New Delhi, 10th Jan. Delhi Police have successfully re-arrested a 59-year-old murder convict, Kiran, who had been absconding for the past nine years after jumping parole, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Kiran, who was convicted for the kidnapping and murder of a boy in 2004 in Narela, had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh before killing the victim. Along with accomplices, Kiran was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2007.
In January 2016, Kiran was granted a two-week parole but failed to return, fleeing the scene and evading authorities. Since then, he had been on the run, with multiple police teams conducting raids across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab in search of him.
Living under the alias Kamal alias Pehlwan, Kiran worked as a labourer in various locations, including brick kilns, and frequently moved to avoid detection. Authorities said he never stayed in one place for more than a year.
The breakthrough in the case came when Kiran was traced to his native village in Muzaffarnagar. A special police team was dispatched to the location, leading to his arrest.
Police have assured further investigation into the matter.
