New Delhi, 11th March: The Delhi Police has launched “Operation Kavach”, a focused enforcement drive aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and making the national capital drug-free.

According to information shared in the Lok Sabha, the operation has led to large-scale action against drug mafia operating across the city.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, in a written reply, said that from May 13, 2023 to January 23, 2026, a total of 12 special operations were carried out under Operation Kavach across different parts of Delhi.

During these drives, police teams raided 9,694 locations, registering 851 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and 1,690 cases under the Delhi Excise Act, 2009.

A total of 2,640 individuals were arrested during these targeted enforcement actions.

The government also informed Parliament that between 2023 and February 15, 2026, Delhi Police registered 5,467 FIRs related to drug offences.

During this period, 7,134 people were arrested and approximately 17,435 kilograms of narcotic substances were seized.

The seized drugs included charas, opium, ganja, smack, heroin, poppy seeds and cocaine, among others.

Although no properties belonging to drug traffickers have been seized so far, authorities have taken action against illegal infrastructure linked to the drug trade.

Between 2023 and February 2026, Delhi Police conducted 29 joint demolition operations with civic agencies targeting structures allegedly used by drug traffickers.

Officials said the operation forms part of a broader strategy to curb narcotics networks, strengthen law enforcement and ensure stricter monitoring of drug-related activities in the national capital.
