New Delhi, 18th June. Delhi’s Water Minister Atishi on Monday appealed to the Haryana government to release water to alleviate the escalating water crisis and extreme heat conditions affecting the capital. During a press conference at the Wazirabad barrack, Atishi highlighted the severe depletion of water levels and the visible river bed, emphasizing the urgent need for Haryana’s intervention.

Atishi announced that senior officials and additional chief secretaries from the Delhi Government will meet with Haryana’s Irrigation Department to address the crisis. She stressed that without additional water from Haryana, Delhi’s water shortage would persist, affecting treatment plants and the public supply.

“The senior officials and additional chief secretaries from the Delhi government will depart for Haryana on Tuesday to meet the ‘Irrigation Department’,” Atishi stated. She underscored that the current water level at the Wazirabad Barrage has dropped to 668 feet, significantly below the usual 674.5 feet, despite efforts to maintain it with recycled water.

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini criticized the Delhi government, accusing it of mismanagement and corruption. He claimed that Haryana is providing sufficient water and urged Delhi to focus on improving its water distribution system.

“We are providing them sufficient water. First, the AAP government should do some introspection on themselves. They are more focused on corruption rather than fulfilling its promises to the public,” Saini said. He added that Haryana is committed to supporting Delhi but called for accountability and effective governance from the Delhi administration.

The water crisis has intensified debates over resource management and inter-state cooperation, with both governments urging swift action to ensure adequate water supply for Delhi’s residents.
