New Delhi, 18th June: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday that the city government will establish a single-window system to streamline permissions and address grievances for Kanwar camps during the upcoming holy month of Sawan. The move aims to ensure a hassle-free and comfortable experience for Shiva devotees.
Speaking after a meeting with office-bearers of various Kanwar camp committees from across Delhi, CM Gupta assured full government support in providing essential amenities, including electricity, water, medicines, and sanitation. “It is our responsibility to ensure that not even a pebble pricks the feet of Shiva devotees. Kanwar Yatra is a festival of faith, devotion, and discipline, and the government will take every possible step to make it smooth and efficient,” the Chief Minister stated.
The new single-window system is designed to eliminate the administrative hurdles reportedly faced by camp organizers under the previous government. CM Gupta explicitly pledged, “Despite crores of rupees being spent earlier, Shiv devotees faced numerous difficulties. This time, we will not let that happen.” Her government, she affirmed, will assume full responsibility for managing the Kanwar camps and resolving any issues encountered by organizing committees.
Ministers, District Development Committee (DDC) Chairpersons, and District Magistrates will oversee the arrangements, with Ministers personally ensuring that any difficulties are addressed with priority. The Chief Minister guaranteed that there would be no compromise in providing facilities such as medical aid, electricity connections, water supply, sanitation, toilets, fire safety, security, and efficient traffic management at the camps.
The meeting was attended by Delhi Government Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Kapil Mishra, along with senior government officials and representatives from the Fire Services and Electricity Department.
The Kanwar Yatra is a significant religious tradition in North India, where millions of devotees journey to collect holy Ganga water from places like Haridwar and Gangotri to offer at Shiva temples. Annually, thousands of Kanwar devotees traverse through Delhi on their pilgrimage to various states, and temporary camps are set up across the city to welcome and accommodate them.
