Delhi Election Results: Congress Leads in Badli, AAP-BJP Locked in Close Contest

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 8th Feb. Counting of votes for Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies is underway, with early trends indicating that the Congress may finally open its account after failing to win a single seat in the last two elections. As per the latest updates, Congress is leading from the Badli seat, which was previously held by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Congress’ Delhi unit president Devender Yadav is contesting from Badli against AAP’s Ajesh Yadav and BJP’s Deepak Chaudhary. The party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years until 2013, had launched an aggressive campaign with senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra holding multiple rallies before the polls. Despite exit polls predicting another poor performance, the party appears to be making a breakthrough.

The last time Congress won a seat in Delhi was in the 2013 assembly elections, securing eight seats with a vote share of 24.55%. The BJP, which emerged as the single-largest party that year with 31 seats, fell short of the majority, while AAP bagged 28 seats and formed a short-lived government with Congress’ support.

AAP-BJP in Tight Race
As per the latest trends, the AAP and the BJP are locked in a close contest, both leading in 21 seats. If AAP retains power, it will mark a fourth consecutive term, surpassing Congress’ 15-year rule in the national capital.

However, AAP’s key leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Chief Minister Atishi, are trailing in their respective constituencies.

Exit polls had earlier given an edge to the BJP over AAP, which has been in power in Delhi since 2015. The final results are expected later today.
