New Delhi, June 16: In a forward-looking proposal aimed at revolutionizing higher education in the capital, Member of Parliament from Chandni Chowk, Shri Praveen Khandelwal, has formally urged Delhi’s Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta to consider the establishment of a Delhi Digital University. In his letter, Khandelwal praised the CM’s dynamic leadership under the larger vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and highlighted the urgent need for a technology-driven, future-ready educational model in the capital.
According to MP Khandelwal, the proposed Delhi Digital University would act as a centralized institution offering high-quality online education, skill development programs, and advanced research in fields like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Blockchain, and Digital Governance The university, he noted, would align with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP)and serve as a cost-effective, accessible, and flexible learning platform for students, working professionals, and entrepreneurs.
In his communication to the Chief Minister, Khandelwal emphasized five key advantages of the digital university model:
1. Universal Access to Education: The university would provide top-tier online education to students across all social and geographic segments, including those in remote and underprivileged areas, thereby democratizing higher education.
2. Future-Ready Skilling: By designing courses in collaboration with leading tech companies and startups, the university could ensure that learners acquire industry-relevant skills, making them more employable and ready for entrepreneurial ventures.
3. Boost to Digital Ecosystem: The presence of a dedicated digital university would further strengthen Delhi’s ambition to become a knowledge and innovation hub, complementing its already vibrant startup and services sectors.
4. Cost Efficiency and Scalability: With its digital-first model, the university would require lower infrastructure investment while offering the capacity to reach a large number of students both nationally and globally.
5. Global Recognition: By forging strategic collaborations and offering internationally benchmarked courses, the Delhi Digital University could attract global students and researchers, positioning Delhi as a global education destination.
MP Khandelwal believes that the creation of such a university would not only be a landmark educational reform but also a significant step toward fulfilling the government’s Digital India and Viksit Bharat\@2047 goals. He expressed willingness to provide further inputs and support for the initiative and urged the Chief Minister to consider the proposal seriously.
A copy of the letter was also marked to Shri Ashish Sood, Hon’ble Minister for Education, Government of Delhi.
If approved, the Delhi Digital University could become a model institution, setting benchmarks for other Indian states to follow and signaling Delhi’s commitment to futuristic, inclusive, and tech-powered governance.
