New Delhi, 26th Feb. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday once again failed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in response to the seventh summons issued to him in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy matter.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has urged the ED to show respect for the legal process and await the court’s decision rather than continuously issuing summonses to Kejriwal. The party argues that the repeated summonses served to the Chief Minister are unjustified.
“The matter is currently sub judice, with the next hearing scheduled for March 16. Instead of sending daily summonses, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) should exercise patience and await the court’s decision,” stated the AAP.
This marks the seventh instance in which Kejriwal has been summoned by the probe agency regarding the case. Earlier this month, the agency escalated the matter to a city court after Kejriwal had failed to appear for several summonses related to the investigation.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED are jointly probing the now-defunct Delhi government excise policy for 2021-22, alleged to have favored certain liquor dealers. The AAP vehemently denies these allegations.
Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry into purported irregularities in the policy following a report from the Delhi government’s chief secretary. Mr. Kejriwal underwent questioning by the CBI for nine hours in April concerning the case.
In a related development, AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia was apprehended by the CBI in February of this year.
