New Delhi, 30th Nov: Delhi witnessed a marginal improvement in its air quality on Sunday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) shifting from the ‘very poor’ to the ‘poor’ category. According to CPCB data, the national capital recorded an AQI of 269 at 7 am, down from 305 logged at 4 pm on Saturday.

Despite this improvement, thick layers of smog continued to engulf key locations, including ITO and nearby stretches.

Shadipur reported the worst pollution level at 335, followed by Jahangirpuri (324), Nehru Nagar (319), RK Puram (307), and the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences in Dilshad Garden (303) — all falling in the ‘very poor’ bracket. Mandir Marg recorded the lowest AQI at 158, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category.

Several areas remained in the ‘poor’ category, including Bawana (295), Sirifort (293), Rohini (291), Vivek Vihar (289), Burari Crossing (283), Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range (282), Dwarka Sector 8 (281), Chandni Chowk (281), Patparganj (280), Wazirpur (281), Anand Vihar (281), Sonia Vihar (277), Narela (276), Ashok Vihar (275), Punjabi Bagh (265), Pusa (263), and SRRI Mathura Road (262).

The Delhi government said it is closely monitoring the situation and taking daily measures to curb pollution. Meanwhile, the issue has sparked political reactions. Senior Congress leader Sandeep Dixit accused the government of “murdering” citizens through prolonged exposure to toxic air.

“Delhi’s environment has become utterly polluted over the last six to seven years. Doctors say such conditions reduce life expectancy. It is like slowly poisoning someone,” he said.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has also demanded a debate in Parliament on Delhi’s worsening air quality, calling it an urgent national concern.
