New Delhi, 4th April.
The Ministry of Defence refuted claims suggesting political or ideological biases in the allocation of new Sainik Schools, emphasizing that the selection process is rigorous and impartial.

A report by online media platform ‘The Reporters’ Collective’ alleged that a significant portion of the new Sainik Schools was allocated to entities affiliated with Sangh Parivar and BJP politicians. Dismissing these assertions as unfounded, the ministry clarified that the selection process is devoid of any political influence.

“The scheme for new Sainik Schools is well thought out. The selection process itself is rigorous, checks and balances have been built in to ensure continuing adherence to the objectives and strong incentives are in place to provide financial support to deserving students,” stated the defence ministry.

It reiterated that political or ideological affiliations do not factor into the selection process, emphasizing the impartiality and transparency of the evaluation criteria.

The government’s initiative to establish 100 new Sainik Schools across the country, in collaboration with NGOs, state governments, and the private sector, aims to bolster the education sector. Out of over 500 applications received and scrutinized, provisional approval has been granted to 45 schools in the first phase.

Approval for these schools is contingent upon annual inspections to ensure compliance with established standards. The Ministry underscored the stringent evaluation process involving physical inspections and verification of credentials by designated committees.

The scheme, approved by the Union Cabinet in October 2021, entails affiliation of 100 schools with the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defence. The Approval Committee, comprising key officials and educationists, plays a pivotal role in finalizing recommendations based on objective criteria.

The Defence Ministry condemned attempts to politicize or misrepresent the scheme’s objectives, affirming its commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness in the allocation of new Sainik Schools.
